![]() When you are not plugged into a power source your RV battery(s) supply the power to all of the 12 volt components in the RV. While plugged in the charger portion of the converter charges the RV's batteries. This allows the unit to power all of the 12 volt components such as lighting, furnace, water pump, powered vents and the like in the RV. When your RV is plugged into an power source or your using the onboard generator, the converter is designed to reduce the incoming 120 volts AC power down to 12 volt DC. Also, Vevor support is responsive and quick to find a satisfactory solution which means I will continue shopping here. What is an RV Converter/Charger and why do you need one. ![]() I may be a great RV converter too if I just had a defective unit - but even if not, it could be workable with modifications to the RV wiring. The steady and reliable DC power is great.īottom line is this is a great unit for steady DC supply and even episodic overnight charging with a discharged battery. If I have shore power and which to use DC appliances, I can leave the converter on and turn off the battery connection through the kill switch. This gives me the flexibility to turn the converter off once the battery is charged. I put a switch on the AC power to the converter and a 50 amp DC circuit breaker on the DC output which one should do anyway. Nevertheless, I'm able to use the converter manually. I'm still not sure if it is a defect of this particular unit or a problem with circuit detection of the battery voltage. After sending background information and pictures, they couldn't find an explanation for this so offered me generous compensation for the issue. I reached out to support and got an immediate response. A 12 V battery that is left for days at over 13.8 volts will boil and eventually be destroyed. I tried several times after some disconnected time to keep the converter on in the RV but couldn't get it to reduce the voltage to a safe "float" voltage. Unfortunately, even after the current flow remained steady at 0.5amps for over 24 hours, the voltage remained pinned at 14.65 V. When connected to a partially discharged battery, it maintained a steady 14.65V with a gradually decreasing current as it should in the absorption phase. The converter out of the box provided a steady 14.65 V. I heeded another review in this forum about cooling air space and positioned it 3/4" from the wall with 2 strips of 1X2 lumber. It was easy to install given the small size and the standard Anderson connector (contrary to some other posts, the connector is a widely used format). The failed unit was known as a "battery boiler" which now that I know more about batteries, definitely applied to me so it was good to be forced to replace it. I bought this to replace a failed converter in our small RV. ![]() Capable of charging your RV battery while also supplying power for your DC electronics.
